Recently, MFS added something to both the public investor site and advisor site that we don’t remember seeing recently on a Mutual Fund Monitor - Advisor site - a poll asking people for their views on the market. Users can choose from one of four options - extremely optimistic, somewhat optimistic, somewhat pessimistic and extremely pessimistic - to express their opinion on how the market will perform over the next six months.

We were interested to see how the attitudes of investors would differ from the beliefs of trained investment professionals; surprisingly, the results were more or less the same. When we last compared numbers on November 20th, (the results are automatically updated each time users submit a response), advisors seemed to be slightly more optimistic, with 66.3% choosing either extremely optimistic or somewhat optimistic for the poll (as compared with 55.4% of investors).

According to MFS’ poll, over half of users (both investors and advisors alike) are hopeful about the future of our economy. Can the majority be wrong? For our sake, let’s hope not!
